Introduction

Dr. Jana studied Civil Engineering at the undergraduate level at Bangalore University in India. He then moved to Texas A&M University in the United States where, in 2004, he got a Masters in Civil Engineering, dealing with the rheology of pavement materials. In 2010 he was awarded a Ph. D. in Biological and Agricultural Engineering for his work on the scaling characteristics of soil hydraulic parameters at varying spatial resolutions. Dr. Jana worked as a post-doc at Texas A&M till 2012, when he moved to KAUST and joined the Centre for Numerical Porous Media. He joined the WDRC/ESOM group in 2014.​

Research Interests

​Raghu’s primary research interests are in the area of sub-surface hydrology, especially the vadose (or unsaturated) zone hydrology. His expertise is in the domains of soil hydraulic parameter scaling, and mathematical/physical modeling soil moisture dynamics at multiple spatial scales. His research is oriented towards understanding the physical, chemical, and biological processes that control the movement of water and contaminants (chemical and biological) at various spatial and temporal scales. He is currently working on modeling of soil moisture and salinity in agricultural fields in arid regions.
